Media

Although we're new to social media and have never used a public relations (PR) firm or publicist, there's been an assortment of media coverage on us over the years, starting when Neiman Marcus launched our book. (We still can't believe that happened, but that's another story — maybe even a few — for another day.)

Since the book was intended as the basis of a sitcom, we never expected it to take on a life of its own. In fact, we've never really thought of ourselves as authors, and definitely not newsworthy! So you can imagine our surprise when people question why we haven't received more coverage.

Red & Black & Media

Prior to Black turning my crisis into a book — a brand — a business, I was a stay-at-home mom and didn't "appear" anywhere. Except, of course, in the school carpool line, the grocery store, the vet's office, or chauffeuring my daughters to various activities. Anyway, for some reason, the media didn't find any of those activities newsworthy. Go figure!

Back in the late 1970s, I was one of the few women in business school and then felt like a "token female" in the oil and gas industry. However, I tried to keep a "low profile" ... but that became a challenge when I retired and started racing Porsches and Ferraris.

Fast Forward To …

As technology developed and allowed the media to provide audiences with "fast-food news”, there became a need — almost insatiable — for content as people wanted a constant stream of information and entertainment. Then social media seemed to take over, with many people now turning to non-traditional sources for their “news”. (Warning, don’t get Black started on that.) And that’s without layering in the impact of AI.

As a start-up company and brand, we knew the importance of cultivating the interest and attention of “traditional” media and were able to get some impressive coverage. And we’ve started building our social media presence. But we’re also open to other avenues of media coverage, as well as providing content.

And Our “Ask” …

We didn’t build Red & Black with PR firms, marketers, or other “selling machines” — we grew because people shared. So, we ask …

If our banter, stories, or perspectives resonate with you, could you help us reach more people? Whether by word-of-mouth, social media, blogs, media contacts, or any other way you think might spread the word ... we’d greatly appreciate it!
